Joleon Lescott has named one former Manchester City star as the best player has has ever played with throughout his career.
The former defender played alongside numerous big-name stars from City’s past during his time at the club between 2009 and 2014.
Now though, the 41-year-old has now named one former teammate as the best player he’s ever featured alongside.
Lescott says Toure is the best he’s played with
In a recent YouTube short from Goal, Lescott had this to say when asked who the best player he has ever played with is.
He said: “So the best footballer I played with was David Silva. Consistency, touch, understanding, awareness, but the best player was Yaya Toure.
“If he played well, we won, it was that simple. He could just control the outcome of the game so I would say best player would be Yaya.”
Having played over 100 games each with the former City duo, it’s safe to say that Lescott knows what he’s talking about in terms of what Silva and Toure offered on the pitch.
Having scored 79 goals, one of which came in the 2011 FA Cup final which saw City win their first trophy in over 30 years, and delivered 49 assists in 316 appearances, this shows how much the midfielder was able to impact games in terms of providing goal contributions.
Not long before he left the club back in 2018, Toure was given a plaque at the City Football Academy in recognition of the midfielder’s impressive efforts at the Etihad Stadium, with Khaldoon Al Mubarak labelling him as a “legend” of the club.
While Silva can definitely be considered at the same level as the Ivorian in terms of club status, the fact that Lescott has said that Toure was the better and more impactful player shows just how much of a pivotal player he was for City.
