Kalvin Phillips has revealed that Scott Carson has been one of the best figures in the Manchester City dressing room.

The midfielder will be kicking off his second season at the Manchester club next month having won the treble at the end of his debut campaign.

Now though, the 27-year-old has shared some behind-the-scenes insight into the City dressing room and highlighted one player in particular that he has enjoyed working alongside.

Speaking in a recent edition of the Unfiltered podcast, Phillips had this to say about Carson and what he’s like in the changing room.

He said: “Scotty is the funniest guy I’ve ever met, he’s so funny. 24 hours a day he’s like that all the time.

“For Scotty, he’s someone that people look up to just because of how he is, how he just acts every single day. He works so hard as well, he works so, so hard and his playing time is very limited, he knows that but the way that he helps players when they’re not involved like this year, Scotty has been one of the best people for me to be around because he always gives 100%.

“Say like all the other lads are on recovery who have played, lads that are substitutes they have to go out and train together, you could feel [bad], you’d be like ‘I cant be [bothered], I don’t want to do this,’ but then Scotty would be like ‘come on, you need to carry on going,’ and whatever Scotty says you’ve got to do.”

Having only started four of the 21 games he appeared in for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, it’s easy to see why Phillips has had so much interaction with Carson, as he didn’t make any appearances throughout the campaign.

With that in mind, it’s a big bonus for City to have someone in the squad like the 37-year-old that can help motivate the other players around him that aren’t regular starters like Phillips.

The midfielder isn’t the only City player that has highlighted Carson as being a popular figure in the dressing room, as Ederson said back in May that the veteran shot-stopper “is the most loved player in our squad and probably the one who spreads the most joy in our dressing room.”

Guardiola has also shared how significant the 37-year-old is behind the scenes, praising the chemistry he has with Ederson and revealing that everyone listens to him when he speaks.

With all of that in mind, it’s clear that while he may not have had much of a presence on the pitch during his time at City, Carson’s impact in the dressing room has been and still is vital for the squad and the other players around him.
