Txiki Begiristain has hailed Kyle Walker after seeing the right-back sign a contract extension at Manchester City.

After being linked with a move away from the Manchester club during the recent summer transfer window, the 33-year-old decided to stay at the Etihad Stadium and has now extended his contract until 2026.

This announcement then led to City’s director having his say on the matter and his overall thoughts on the player.

Speaking to the club’s media after the news of Walker’s extension was officially announced on their website, Begiristain had this to say about the defender.

He said: We are very happy that Kyle will be here until 2026. He is an outstanding footballer and his speed, strength and experience make him such an important member of our squad.

“For me, he is the best right-back in the world, a player with a unique set of attributes. He brings a very special dynamic to our team. Kyle has been a huge part of our recent success, and we are confident that he will help us compete for trophies in the upcoming seasons.”

Since arriving at the club back in 2017 from Tottenham Hotspur, the Englishman has made 260 appearances for City across all competitions, winning numerous trophies along the way including five Premier League titles.

This season has seen Walker play every minute of action for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, donning the captain’s armband on numerous occasions.

With that in mind, and the fact that Guardiola publicly expressed his eagerness to keep hold of the full-back during the summer shows just how important he is for the club, as Begiristain mentioned.

Now that the England international has put pen to paper on this contract extension, this will undoubtedly be a big positive for everyone at the club and now allow the player to focus on the season ahead and hopefully help them regain their titles from the last campaign.
