Wayne Rooney has said Manchester City star Erling Haaland is one of the top two strikers in world football right now.
After having a successful debut season in England, both from an individual and a team perspective, the Norwegian is looking to replicate the success he enjoyed last term.
Away from the Manchester club, one former player, who knows what it takes to be a top striker, has shared his thoughts on the City star and put him in a rather special bracket.
Rooney says Haaland is top two in the world

Speaking in a recent video shared on the Premier League YouTube channel, Rooney had this to say about Haaland when initially speaking about former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
He said: “He was a nightmare for defenders and when you talk about number nines now and you look at Haaland. The best two are Haaland and [Harry] Kane, almost the only two, it’s so difficult to find now.”
At the age of 23, Haaland has scored 208 goals in 261 senior games throughout his career, with 73 of those goals coming across the 79 matches he’s played for City prior to today’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.
As for Kane, he has 322 goals in 524 senior games, although hasn’t got the trophy cabinet to rival Haaland’s.
Having broken numerous records throughout his debut season in English football and then going on to finish second behind Lionel Messi in the latest Ballon d’Or ranking and being named as UEFA’s Best Player In Europe for 2023, this makes it easy to see why Rooney thinks so highly of the City star.
Taking into account his age and the team that he’s in, we see no reason why Haaland can’t carry on scoring goals and winning titles for the foreseeable future, which is what every City supporter will be hoping for.
