Craig Burley has suggested that one way to ‘rattle’ Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku would be to get stuck into him with tough tackles.

After Pep Guardiola’s men beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 on Saturday, the outspoken pundit gave his two cents on the £55 million (Independent) man’s performance.

Craig Burley was clearly impressed by Jeremy Doku but he does believe that having a rough approach with him would reap rewards.

Craig Burley says he knows how he could ‘rattle’ Jeremy Doku

Branded as ‘clever’ by Pep Guardiola, the Belgian international assisted Julian Alvarez’s opener in stunning fashion, showcasing his phenomenal dribbling and raw pace.

Throughout the contest, the Seagulls defence simply could not lay a finger on the Etihad Stadium’s brand-new fan favourite, who ran the show from start to finish.

After the contest, Craig Burley suggested how Jeremy Doku could be tamed, saying, “Doku to me is a real threat but looking at him, he looks to me that guy that I’d want to rattle because he’s only a young man but [James] Milner gave him, we’d call it an old-fashioned challenge and it was fair.”

“And then he got a knock in the second half and he rolled about for about five minutes, and then picked himself up and before you know it, he was doing 100 metres again in 10 seconds. He’s a big, strong boy but he’s going to have to get used to the physicality and that’s what’s going to happen to him, and he looks a little bit like he wants to go to ground when he gets these challenges.”

Ultimately, defenders will take the advice on board from Craig Burley and try to constantly hack Jeremy Doku down to stop him in his tracks.

How Doku bounces back from such challenges will determine how far he goes as a winger as he clearly has all the natural talent to reach the stars.
