Pundit Fara Williams has suggested that Phil Foden could find himself out of the Manchester City team soon.
The Englishman recently scored a hat-trick to help his side beat Brentford 3-1 away from home in what was his 22nd Premier League appearance of the campaign.
Despite being a rather prominent figure in Pep Guardiola’s team so far this season, one pundit has claimed that this may not continue to be the case for the 23-year-old.
Pundit reckons Foden could be dropped soon
Speaking in a recent edition of Football Daily, Williams had this to say about Foden and what his role in City’s team could be over the next few weeks and months.
She said: “I think if you look at the Manchester City squad and the players he’s competing with, it’s really difficult to break into that squad or starting XI and get a consistent run of games.
“I think he’s been fortunate with the injury to De Bruyne that he’s had a good run of games to showcase. I think he’s matured as a player so he’s probably at a better level to sustain that consistency in terms of his performance.
“We’ve seen that he probably doesn’t have a position that he’s actually settled in, he’s played off the right, he’s played off the left, he’s played centrally and he’s trying to find the position that best suits him. We’ve seen Bernardo Silva be moved out wide for Foden to come in central.
“I think the interesting thing now when everybody’s fit for Manchester City, where do they play him? Does he still start?”
With Foden featuring in a variety of positions throughout the season, this versatility makes him a useful figure for Guardiola to rely.
His overall performances have earned the 23-year-old a season rating of 7.37/10 from WhoScored, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in the City squad.
While the question of his regular position could still be in the air throughout the season, we think that, despite Williams’ doubts, the Englishman will continue to be a prominent name on the teamsheet.
