Manchester City are facing the possibility of missing out on Alphonso Davies this summer, with the full-back poised to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.
City have been linked with Davies several times since last summer, with there being a feeling that Pep Guardiola could swoop for the Canada international. Left-back has been something of a problem position for City over the years.
It’s been suggested that City have had their eye on the player for around two years, and is someone club officials have always appreciated.
Davies has also been linked with Real Madrid though, with the Spanish giants keen to lure the 23-year-old to the Bernabeu.
Journalist David Ornstein has today provided an update on the situation with Davies, and it doesn’t really bode well for City…
Manchester City target Alphonso Davies expected to sign new contract with Bayern Munich

Currently, Davies has a contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer of 2025, meaning he’ll have just one year left this summer.
Previously, Bayern have been worried about Davies running down his contract at the club and eventually leaving for free.
But today, Ornstein has reported that there is an ‘expectation’ that DAvies will put pen to paper on a new deal. He said in The Athletic: “The Madrid interest is well documented, but the last I heard, the Bayern Munich new-contract proposal was superior, so unless that has changed or does subsequently, the expectation is that Davies will renew.”
£184,000-a-week star Davies has been with Bayern since January 2019, and has racked up 179 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and making 28 assists.
City don’t appear to be in the race
So this update from Ornstein would suggest that City are not anywhere close to signing Davies.
He will not be on the move in this transfer window, but it’s very likely clubs including Real Madrid are already looking ahead to the summer.
But it seems there is now an expectation for Davies to commit his future to Bayern. There are no specifics revealed about this offer that’s on the table from the German giants.
But seemingly, the player is possibly going to sign soon.
Ornstein does not mention City whatsoever, so one wonders if the club are not ready to act on their previous interest or there may be someone else on their radar.
