‘The latest I have’: ‘Exceptional’ player could now stay at Man City for two more years – journalist

Kyle Walker could now extend his stay at Man City this summer.

That’s according to Manchester Evening News’ journalist Simon Bajkowski, who has played down rumours that the defender has already chosen to join Bayern Munich.

After making 22 starts in the Premier League last season, Walker’s future remains in doubt as he enters the final year of his contract.

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with the 33-year-old in recent months and The Athletic reported last week that Walker had reached a verbal agreement to join the German champions.

However, Bajkowski has claimed that Walker is yet to make a decision on his future and is still considering staying at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking on the Talking City Podcast, Bajkowski said: “It was really weird because reports from Germany said he had chosen to stay at City but then reports the next day said he had chosen to join Bayern. I don’t know if he’s chosen Bayern.

“The latest I have had on it last week was that he had a very good offer from Bayern that he was open to taking, but also he had had a very good counter offer from City that had made him think that he could maybe stay at City for the next two years.

“So he might have decided but as far as I know he is still yet to decide either way.”

Kyle Walker ‘can’t’ fit into Man City’s system

Kyle Walker has been sensational for Man City and has been a huge player in contributing to their success over the last six years.

With five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League under his belt, Walker’s departure would be a huge loss to Man City after he was regularly praised for his stellar performances under Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard labelled Walker as ‘exceptional‘ following Man City’s win over West Ham in August of last year, however things have clearly changed over the course of the campaign.

Walker found himself out of the starting line-up towards the end of the season and Guardiola explained why back in April, claiming that the England international ‘couldn’t do it’ in his new system that sees John Stones pushed into midfield.

While Walker is a huge fan favourite at Man City, it may seem the best option for him to leave this summer if he is going to struggle to claw his way back into the picture under Pep.
