James Milner has revealed what Jurgen Klopp said after the iconic screamer from Vincent Kompany against Leicester City in 2019.

The former Liverpool midfielder recalled the German tactician’s reaction on Football’s Greatest Top 5 in an episode where he told Jeff Stelling about the five best games he has been a part of in his illustrious career.

In the 2018/2019 Premier League season, Manchester City went on to win the Premier League by just a mere point.

Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side seemed determined to spoil the party for Pep Guardiola’s men in the 37th game of the league season, as their sturdy defence gave the hosts no way past them at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the Foxes’ resolve was broken in the 70th minute after Kompany came up trumps with a stunning strike from outside the box that nestled right into the top corner.

As Manchester City went on to beat Leicester 1-0 with Vincent Kompany saving their blushes, James Milner recounts how Jurgen Klopp reacted to the strike.

“But then the build up to the next game [after Liverpool lost 3-0 to Barcelona in the first leg of the 2018/2019 edition of the Champions League] and we needed City to drop points the night before and Vinny [Vincent Kompany] goes and [I’ve] seen him do it a 100 times in training, slice it into the bushes and he decides to slice it into the top corner this time”, he said on Football’s Greatest Top 5.

“[It] came in the day of the game and the manager said, ‘Does anyone want to say anything about what happened last night? No, right, here we go.’

Vincent Kompany produced a goal that seemingly stunned even a great

As Vincent Kompany saved the day for City against Leicester, it seems like Jurgen Klopp was shell-shocked, judging by how James Milner has recounted the event.

In addition, it seems like Klopp was aware that a pessimistic reaction would not help his side, who still had a chance to win the league on the final day of the season if the Sky Blues faltered.

However, Manchester City retained their league title in style with a 4-1 battering of Brighton & Hove Albion after conceding first at the hands of Glenn Murray, with goals from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.
