As Manchester City officially announced the signing of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate, several of their fans online were over the moon.
For months on end, Echeverri has been strongly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
The 18-year-old has been at River Plate from a young age, officially signing for the Argentine giants in 2017.
Manchester City announce the signing of Claudio Echeverri
On Thursday, Manchester City announced the signing of Claudio Echeverri on X (formerly known as Twitter), who is set to remain on loan at River Plate before joining the English giants in January next year.
Daniel Brizuela, the man who discovered the precocious attacking midfielder believes the way he dribbles is similar to that of Lionel Messi, as he carries the ball from the flank towards central areas.
He also went as far as to say that the teenager has “the personality” that the great Diego Maradona did.

Much like in Julian Alvarez’s case, Claudio Echeverri has been afforded the chance to continue his development at River Plate before eventually joining Manchester City’s first-team.
It seems like City may have already taken a step ahead of their rivals in the January transfer window for next year.
How City fans reacted to the announcement
One Manchester fan reacted to the signing of Claudio Echeverri by going as far as to comment, “Better than [Lionel] Messi already.”
Another supporter hailed the highly-rated attacker as a “generational talent”.
A third fan described the young talent as an “upcoming Argentine legend.”
It is evident how much City fans are excited after having signed one of the world’s most prodigious young midfielders.
While the signing of a global superstar always generates a buzz amongst supporters, there is a sense of intrigue that comes with the acquisition of an unknown commodity like the Argentine technician.
