The reason Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid is currently being held up

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, but there is still a bit of work to be done for the move to finalise.

Atletico and City reached an agreement for the striker’s transfer earlier today, for a fee in the region on £82 million.

Atleti have swoop for the South American, after learning that he was open to leaving in order to get more regular minutes.

Alvarez had lost prominence in the second half of last season after the returns of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Everything is sorted between the two clubs. But there has been an interesting development in the last moments, and it seems there is actually still a little bit of work to be done for this one to get over the line.

It has been reported this evening by journalist Ben Jacobs that there is currently no agreement between Alvarez and Atletico Madrid on personal terms.

The player wants the move of course.

But for the moment, there is a disagreement over the base salary and also contract length.

Jacobs said over on X: “Alvarez yet to agree personal terms with Atletico Madrid. Disagreement over base salary and contract length.

“Atleti working to try and resolve, but personal terms still need to be finalised, and that delays deals for both Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion.”

It had previously been suggested that Alvarez was in line to sign a five-year contract at Atleti, who have apparently told the player they intend to make him the new face of their club.

A slight concern, but at least transfer fee is agreed

Hopefully this is nothing more than a minor hiccup and this deal will go through before too long.

The player is very keen to make the move having grown tired of his role at City, so you would imagine that the disagreement will soon be sorted.

Should this actually collapse against the odds though, then City can perhaps look in Paris Saint-Germain’s direction.

The French giants were also said to be keen on the Argentina international and are obviously one of the richest clubs in the world. One would suspect Alvarez might actually be able to command a bigger salary from them.
