The two most important factors for Pep Guardiola as he mulls over Man City contract extension

Will he, won’t he? Manchester City fans hope they’ll know the answer very soon.

Pep Guardiola’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of the season and supporters are desperate for him to extend.

The Manchester City manager has hinted that he’d be happy to several times.

It’s also been suggested that Guardiola extending at Man City by one year is the most likely outcome.

But nothing has happened yet and the longer it goes on, the more concerned fans get – and seemingly, the uncertainty isn’t helping the players.

It’s been suggested Manchester City are putting contingency plans in place while Guardiola decides, with Xabi Alonso being considered.

Interestingly, it’s now also been suggested what the two biggest factors are for Guardiola as he considers whether to extend or not.

Pep Guardiola will consider opinion of his family before making Man City decision

It’s been reported by ESPN that there are two big factors at play regarding Guardiola and his decision of whether to extend or not.

The first is the opinion of his family. At the moment, it’s not clear what their stance is.

The second, is whether he believes the players are still responding to him after nine years together.

Gerard Pique believes Guardiola is ‘unreachable’ for motivating players over long periods, and certainly, his trophy haul suggests that as being true.

Guardiola teams have tended to dominate, and he’s always managed to get the best out of players.

Man City need to know Guardiola in the coming weeks

It is totally understandable that Guardiola may still not be sure of his decision.

There are a lot of factors for him to consider other than the thoughts of his family and whether he can still motivate this current squad, and it certainly can’t be easy.

But ideally, he’ll decide before the end of the year, as has been suggested a couple of times now.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen City start to struggle with the team losing four games in a row. That could perhaps be down to injuries, but the speculation may not really help.

Supposedly, City officials would like to know Guardiola’s decision by Christmas and hopefully, he will duly oblige, and inform the club of his decision one way or another.

Without doubt, City officials have it extremely tough to replace Guardiola so plenty of notice will be needed.
