The wholesome thing Ederson did to his 21-year-old Man City teammate during Super Cup celebrations

Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup last night – and there is a lot of talk about Cole Palmer today.

The winger scored City’s goal in the game, which helped City get to a penalty shootout against Sevilla.

Sevilla have given City a lot of difficulty in the game.

They took the lead through Youssef En-Nesyri, who powered home a header midway through the first-half.

City were sloppy on the ball, and were vulnerable on the counter.

But it was Palmer who stepped up in the second-half for City.

The 21-year-old, handed a start by Pep Guardiola, popped up at the back post to head in a Rodri cross for his second of the season.

Palmer’s effort meant the game finished 1-1, and a penalty shootout ensued.

Sevilla missed their final kick with Nemanja Gudelj.

After the game and lifting of the trophy, Ederson – who came in clutch a few times last night for City – was spotted doing something pretty amusing

Ederson gives Cole Palmer the ‘Julian Alvarez treatment’ after UEFA Super Cup

After the game, the City players paraded the trophy in front of the travelling fans.

Given how hard these players work, it is always important for them to bask in the glory.

And it’s nice for them to share these moments with the fans.

At one point during the celebrations, Palmer had the trophy and his celebrations were fairly tame given he had just played a huge part in the winning of it.

Ederson noticed this and as Palmer was Walker back, seemingly a bit embarrassed, the Brazilian pushed the youngster back to celebrate ‘properly’.

You can see him shout ‘Cole!’, before gesturing at him to lift the trophy more aggressively.

Ederson then marches over and gives him a shove, before giving him more encouragement.

The 29-year-old did exactly the same thing to Julian Alvarez earlier this year when City were parading the Premier League trophy around the Etihad after the game with Chelsea.

Wholesome stuff from Ederson

This was brilliant to see from Ederson, who clearly believes a lot in celebrating wildly.

It was really nice to see him trying to get Palmer to have his moment with the fans properly.

Palmer was crucial to last night’s win, and Ederson obviously felt he needed acknowledging more.

Maybe players like Palmer and Alvarez would prefer things to be more low key.

But the intentions of Ederson are certainly very wholesome.
