‘There’s lots of things…’ Erling Haaland explains where he can actually improve his game at Man City

Erling Haaland has made it clear he plans to get even better at Manchester City after a remarkable debut campaign.

City swooped in to sign the world’s next best striker from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and Haaland had the desired instant impact.

The Norwegian sensation brought the clinical edge Pep Guardiola’s side lacked in the biggest moments and scored an astounding 52 times in just 52 games.

Haaland’s goals fired City to a historic treble triumph but he isn’t resting on his laurels and wants to get even better.

Erling Haaland explains what he can improve

Speaking to The Official Man City Podcast, Haaland said: “I think there’s lots of things to still improve.

“When you play so many games it’s difficult to train on things. Because you have to get ready, you have to do the stuff that makes gets you fit for the next game.

“But there’s lots of things to improve I want to become even better with the team, to become more solid with the team, to perform in the biggest games.

“This is what we need, I want to recreate the things we did last season of course.”

An elite mentality

That is the sort of attitude that separates the great footballers, of which there are many throughout the game, from the absolute pinnacle of the support.

To win all there is to win in your debut season, breaking nearly every goal-scoring record under the sun in the process, but still come away hungry for more. Unsatisfied. That is the elite mentality that drives such talent to incredible success.

But not only that, Haaland is humble enough to realise a rare weakness in his game and that is needs to be worked upon.

With City ending last season draped in silverware, it’s easy to forget that City weren’t in great, consistent form for a large chunk of the mid-season and a lot of that came from a struggle to get Haaland involved in the play.

The 23-year-old often felt disconnected being so far up the pitch and City often found themselves out numbered in a midfield due to his high position.

Guardiola found a tactical work-around eventually and things have gradually improve but, as Haaland says, they can always get better.
