Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester City are not currently focusing on trying to sign Gabri Veiga.
Back in June, it was claimed that City had joined Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder, who has a €40m (£35m) release clause in his current contract.
With nothing being reported since then on the Manchester club’s interest in the Spaniard, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on the matter.
Romano says City have cooled Veiga interest

Speaking in a recent edition of The Debrief podcast, Romano had this to say about City’s pursuit of signing a new midfielder this summer and specifically their interest in Veiga.
He said: “They thought of Gabri Veiga, it was more than one month ago. They had some contacts with people close to the player but then they decided to go for a different kind of player in that position.
“So, at that moment, it’s not something that they are actively pursuing at Manchester City.
“Let’s see, it’s something we have to keep an eye on until the end of the window, the midfielder for City but it’s not something in yet.”

Last season saw the 21-year-old score 11 goals and provide four assists across 36 La Liga appearances, which shows why he has had the likes of City, Chelsea and Liverpool linked with a move for him.
Bearing in mind how the Citizens are currently trying to get Bernardo Silva to sign a new contract and stop him from making a move away from the club this summer, perhaps this could be why their pursuit of Veiga has cooled down in addition to what Romano had to say about them wanting a different kind of player for that position.
Moving forward, if the treble winners do end up seeing Silva stay at the Etihad Stadium, this may cease the need for them to add a new midfield face to their squad before the summer transfer window ends.
