‘They liked him’: Journalist says PL star ‘would’ve been at Man City’ this summer if one thing happened

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Bukayo Saka would currently be a Manchester City player had Arsenal failed to finish in the top four last season.

The winger put pen to paper on a new long-term contract back in May, which is set to expire in 2027, after previously being linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

With that potential transfer dead in the water, one journalist has come out with a claim suggesting that things could have been very different had Arsenal’s previous Premier League campaign ended in a different fashion.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones said this on the matter.

He said: “If they hadn’t made top four last season I think he would’ve left by now. I think this summer you would have seen Saka playing somewhere else. I think he would’ve been at Man City because they liked him. He wouldn’t have been able to wait any longer.”

Having ended the previous league campaign with 14 goals and 11 assists, it’s safe to say that the 21-year-old played a massive part in seeing the north London side finish in the top four and securing Champions League football for next season.

It also makes it easy to see why City had their eye on him and why the Gunners were keen to see him sign a new deal.

While the Citizens may have missed an opportunity to potentially add one of England’s top talents to their squad this summer, this will be one for the supporters to imagine what could have been and how Saka could have flourished under the management of Pep Guardiola.

As for the winger himself, his aim will now be to make sure he helps his side do what they couldn’t last season and secure some silverware.
