Fabrizio Romano has revealed what Manchester City’s next transfer plans are after pulling out of the race to sign Declan Rice.

After seeing a £90m bid rejected by West Ham United for the midfielder, the Citizens walked away from the saga.

This has now led to one journalist sharing some behind-the-scenes details on what the current feeling is at the Manchester club and what they will look to do next in the transfer market.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Here We Go Podcast, Romano said this about the situation.

He said: “They will do something else because the idea is to bring in a new midfielder. So they will explore the market, they will try to find the right opportunity. No panic, nothing is going to happen today or tomorrow.”

The treble winners had already seen some changes made to their midfield before pulling out of the Rice race as not only did they confirm Ilkay Gundogan’s departure to Barcelona, they also announced their signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.

After it was revealed that the Citizens were not planning on increasing their offer to sign the Hammers captain, it was then claimed that the club have set their sights on making a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

However, with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested in the Spaniard, this may not be a player that City can afford to take their time over in terms of securing a deal.

Now that Romano has said that the Manchester club will look to bring in a new midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts, it would be safe to assume that the work to find a suitable option will be underway now that a move for Rice is out of the picture.
