Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has relayed a fresh twist concerning Manchester City’s pursuit of Josko Gvardiol.

Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano claimed that an agreement had been reached between RB Leipzig and the Manchester club over a potential deal for the centre-back.

However, some fresh details have come to light regarding this particular transfer saga.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (via Football Daily) this morning, Solhekol said this when asked what the latest was on the matter.

He said: “Conflicting reports about what’s going on with Gvardiol. There have been some reports that a deal has almost been agreed and it’s very, very close.

“This morning, I’ve been speaking to some of my colleagues at Sky Germany and they have very good contacts at his club, RB Leipzig, and they are saying as far as Leipzig are concerned a deal is not close.

“They value the player at around €100m, if he were to move for that that would make him the most expensive defender in the world, that would be around £86m.

“But Sky Germany telling us this morning that as far as Leipzig are concerned there’s still a chance he may stay at the club. Now that could just be a negotiating tactic maybe they want to get the news out there that they are not going to let him go on the cheap.”

During his time with the Bundesliga side, the Croatian has made 87 appearances across all competitions, with two of those coming against City in the knockout stage of last season’s Champions League campaign, which the Citizens then went on to win.

Last month, the 21-year-old agreed personal terms with the Citizens and had even told Leipzig that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.

With that in mind, it seems that agreeing a fee with the German club is the only thing City need to do before they can officially announce Gvardiol as one of their players.

However, with it being reported yesterday that this has already happened, this latest update relayed by Solhekol will surely be a confusing and frustrating one for everyone connected to the club hoping to see it completed as soon as possible.

Moving forward, with conflicting reports and claims flying all over the place, it may be the best idea to just wait until the Manchester club shares an official announcement confirming a deal for the defender.
