Nedum Onuoha has said that Manchester City star Rodri has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season.

The Spaniard recently scored his third Premier League goal of the campaign in City’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the Etihad Stadium.

This then led to one pundit and former City player sharing his thoughts on the 27-year-old and where he ranks in terms of the Premier League’s top midfielders.

Posted in BBC Sport’s live tracker during Saturday’s Premier League fixtures, Onuoha had this to say about Rodri.

He said: “For me, Rodri, Declan Rice and Douglas Luiz have been the best of the best in midfield this season.”

The Manchester club signed Rodri from Atletico Madrid back in the 2019 summer transfer window in a deal worth £62m.

Since then, the midfielder has become a vital figure for the club and Pep Guardiola, making 230 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 21 goals and 22 assists, winning numerous titles along the way.

Even though the City star has played fewer minutes than Rice and Luiz, he has racked up more passes into the penalty area (28), goal-creating actions (9), carries into the final third (37) and recoveries (111) than the Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielders Onuoha also named.

His overall performances have earned the Spain international a season rating of 7.44/10 from WhoScored, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in the division, comfortably placing him above Rice (7.2/10) and Luiz (7.17/10).

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Onuoha picked out Rodri as being one of the Premier League’s top performers this season.

Moving forward, if the midfielder can continue delivering strong performances and keep adding goals to his tally, he will surely find himself on the end of even more praise.
