The 2024 summer window will probably not be remembered for years to come by a lot of Manchester City fans.
The club did not really get up to too much, with just the two incoming.
Exciting winger Savinho joined the club from Troyes in a £33 million deal. Then last week, Ilkay Gundogan sealed a sensational return to the club after just one season at Barcelona.
A couple of first-teamers from last season left, with Julian Alvarez moving to Atletico Madrid and Sergio Gomez joining Real Sociedad.
Pep Guardiola is happy with the makeup of his squad, and fans will be hoping it will deliver a fifth straight Premier League title come May next year.
Despite not much happening, here are three winners of City’s 2024 summer transfer window.
Rodri

Rodri has not yet played for Manchester City in 2024/25, having returned to the club late.
He has played an awful lot of football over the past couple of years, and City are in a position now whereby they need to manage him carefully.
Rodri is arguably the most important player in City’s team. It could be disastrous if he was ever out for a longer period.
City’s move for Gundogan is undoubtedly beneficial for Rodri.
The German has the versatility to be able to slot in as a holding midfielder, thus affording £63 million maestro Rodri more chances to rest up this season.
Erling Haaland
The signing of Gundogan could also potentially really benefit Erling Haaland, who has started the new season as though he means business.
Last season, there were occasions when Haaland was quiet in games. Even if he did still scored 38 goals across all competitions.
Gundogan was a player Haaland linked up well with in the Treble-winning season, with the pair combining for five goals (via Transfermarkt).
Haaland is also arguably a big winner of City’s transfer window because of the club’s other signing, Savinho.
The Brazilian already looks like a real livewire and somebody who is going to be creating plenty of chances for the City number nine.
Mateo Kovacic
- Who is Mateo Kovacic? Step inside the life of the elegant Man City midfielder
For the simple fact that Manchester City did not make a ‘big’ midfielder signing in the summer of 2024.
Yes, Gundogan returned. But the likelihood is that he will play a more rotational role this term. His presence in the squad should to really affect him too much.
There was talk about City landing a marquee midfield signing in this window.
Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United was thought to be a player of interest. In the end, the Brazilian was seemingly too expensive.
Mateo Kovacic is a winner of this transfer window as a result, and can expect to have a solid level of involvement this term – the Croatian has certainly looked good in the opening couple of games.
