Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has predicted Ilkay Gundogan will leave Manchester City this summer.

The German’s future remains up in the air at the moment.

The player’s contract is expiring at the end of the season.

At the moment, there are talks going on between the player, his team of representatives and the club.

It was recently reported that Barcelona – the team most keen to sign him – were losing hope of getting him. A report had suggested that City had made a longer contract offer than they did originally.

But many City fans are concerned that Gundogan will end up leaving.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed seven amazing seasons with the club since signing for £20 million back in 2016.

He has produced some amazing memories for the fans and is a hugely popular figure at the club.

In the eyes of former manager turned pundit Sherwood though, Gundogan will depart the Etihad this summer and join Barca due to their huge lure.

He said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “I think he’s made a decision based on… he wants to try something new.

“I think if Barca come, you’ve got to jump and take the opportunity. Because he’s done it all here. Where’s he going to go? I can’t see him playing for another Premier League side. I know Mikel Arteta wants to take him…

“Man City will be all right without him. I love him, I think he’s brilliant. But (Pep Guardiola) finds a solution.”

Tim Sherwood makes a good point, Ilkay Gundogan has achieved it all at Manchester City and could easily leave

It is very possible Gundogan could leave City this summer with this being one of the main factors.

The man has achieved everything with the club and is absolutely adored by the supporters.

If City end up winning the Treble, then that might be the point Gundogan actually decides it’s time to move on. He would be going out on a high.

Maybe if City do not deliver the Champions League, there could be a chance of Gundogan agreeing to stay.

He may feel that that is his last mission at City.
