Rico Lewis was sent off after being given a second yellow card during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.
The decision from referee Rob Jones to brandish a red card after Rico Lewis contested a loose with Trevoh Chalobah has garnered plenty of opinions, considering the Palace centre-back left a challenge on the two-time Premier League winner.
Jason Cundy’s reaction to Lewis’ sending off was one met by posing a question of why VAR is not allowed to intervene after a referee gives a player a second yellow card.
However, Alan Shearer’s view on Lewis’ red card was that it was a just decision due to how he dove in to win the ball.
The Englishman has been ruled out of Manchester City’s upcoming clash in the Premier League against Manchester United on Sunday.

The 19-year-old could have been in line for a start in the Manchester Derby, which would be an honour for any City academy graduate.

Lewis would have been over the moon after firing Pep Guardiola’s side back into the contest with a well-taken finish to level the scores at 2-2.
But the youngster’s sending off would have been a double whammy for him, considering the Sky Blues dropped more points once again.
When quizzed about Lewis’ red card on talkSPORT, Tony Cascarino vehemently disagreed with the decision.
“No, I’m sorry, I love the era I played in but the modern era just drives me crazy. It’s so easy, shall I say to get sent off.”
“Cards are given so easily. You can clip someone [and get a red card].”
Lewis received the first red card of his senior career against Crystal Palace.
Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji are injured and so is John Stones, leaving Manchester City’s defence is in tatters ahead of the Manchester Derby next weekend, as only Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol could be fit to start as the highly-rated right-back is suspended.

Can Man City appeal Lewis’ red card?
Manchester City supporters would have been left wondering whether Lewis’ sending off can be appealed and subsequently rescinded.
City are in desperate need of a victory and dropped points against United could potentially end any hopes of them winning the title this season.
However, the bad news for the Premier League champions is that when a player is sent off after receiving two yellow cads, a club cannot appeal the decision to the Football Association (FA).
As a result, all Lewis can do is witness Manchester City go head-to-head against Manchester United and hope the hosts come out on top at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola must still be frustrated about the versatile defender’s suspension.
