Pep Guardiola lavished praise upon Rodri for his mesmeric display for Manchester City in their 3-1 victory against Red Star Belgrade.

After the treble-winners kicked off their Champions League campaign in style with a convincing win, the Catalan boss had his say on the £62.8 million (Independent) man’s performance.

It’s safe to say that Pep Guardiola (via the club’s official Twitter account) was floored by yet another Rodri masterclass for Manchester City against Red Star Belgrade.

Pep Guardiola raves about ‘top-class’ Rodri after Manchester City beat Red Star Belgrade

Branded as ‘complete’ by Frank LeBouef, the 27-year-old was flawless on the night, breaking the lines, dictating the tempo of the game, driving forward with the ball and defending astutely.

If the Spanish international was not enough of a nuisance for the visitors on the night, he added to their misery with a peach of a strike from outside the box to take his goal tally to three in six games this season.

“He is a top-class player. The goal is top-class but defensively, offensively, he read the play and spaces, and knows exactly when men are free. Close to the box, he is so dangerous.”

“He loves to arrive in the final third and dribble, and shoot. He is playing really well.”

Rodri is the best midfielder in the world

Pep Guardiola summed up the magnificence of his countryman perfectly, as Manchester City took Red Star Belgrade to the cleaners.

The former Atletico Madrid lynchpin’s splendid showing was a reminder of the fact that there is not a more well-rounded midfielder than him on the planet.

Defensively, Rodri’s instincts are second to none, while his quick feet, powerful ball-carrying and genuine goal threat make him a threat in the final third.

Since the 2021/2022 season, has there been a more consistent midfielder in world football?

The answer is no, as the Manchester City anchor continues to unleash new levels.
