Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson had given his two cents on Kalvin Phillips’ imminent loan move to West Ham United.

Michail Antonio, who admitted that he was unaware of the 28-year-old’s loan move to the London Stadium described him as a “quality player.”

Gary Neville also feels joining the East London side temporarily suits Kalvin Phillips, as he believes he is the perfect fit for a David Moyes team.

Callum Wilson says “top-quality” Kalvin Phillips will “strengthen” West Ham

The £150,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man looks set to sign for a Hammers side that are bang in form, sitting in sixth place in the Premier League table.

The Irons are only five points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who have rightly been praised for their rise under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance this season.

Now, Callum Wilson believes the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips is only set to improve West Ham, as he had his say on The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“Let’s talk about obviously, a new addition for you guys, it’s going to strengthen you a little bit more, Kalvin Phillips joined you. Obviously, top-quality player and someone who would’ve been open to our squad [the podcast] with open arms too, no?”

“Michail [Antonio] doesn’t even know he joined his club”, he said.

Kalvin Phillips is joining the perfect club to revive his career

It is hard to disagree with Callum Wilson as Kalvin Phillips is heading out on loan to a West Ham side that perfectly fits his profile.

One key element when it comes to why the Englishman could thrive for the Irons is the presence of Edson Alvarez.

The former Ajax midfielder is a destroyer, much like Declan Rice, who Kalvin Phillips has a brilliant partnership with in the middle of the park for England.

As a result, Phillips could get the chance to showcase his quality as a box-to-box midfielder, as he famously did for the Three Lions in their opener against Croatia in Euro 2020.

The pair could form a solid partnership for West Ham while Manchester City would also potentially get the chance to sell him to the club permanently if he fulfils his promise in the English capital.
