Paul Dickov has said that Manchester City backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega would start for most teams in the Premier League.
While introducing the German as the latest guest on the Official Man City podcast, the pundit had his say on him.
Paul Dickov clearly recognises the magnificence of Stefan Ortega, who has been a splendid addition at Manchester City since the summer of 2022.

Branded as ‘really, really good’ and an ‘incredible signing’ (via Manchester City’s official website) by Pep Guardiola, the 30-year-old is clearly valued as a top-class goalkeeper.
As No.2’s go, there are not many better than Ortega in world football, let alone just the Premier League.
Now, Paul Dickov has made the claim that Stefan Ortega is not only a class act but he would start for most teams in England.
“Historically, not just here but at every football club, the No.2’s not quite at the level the No.1’s at and that’s why they are the backup goalkeeper. But in Stefan’s case, you can’t say that. When he came in last season, top quality performances, top quality mentality as well.”
“He’s a goalkeeper that could probably go and play in a majority of Premier League teams as a No.1.”

Paul Dickov is spot on as Stefan Ortega is the definition of a top modern-day goalkeeper, which a number of Premier League teams demand nowadays.
To add to that, there is a sense of balance in the former Arminia Bielefeld No.1’s game, which makes him spectacular at his craft as well.
Whilst being excellent on the ball, Ortega remains a brilliant shotstopper, which is what makes him a terrific goalkeeper.
Often, this is not the case with a number of goalkeepers in today’s day and age.
But Stefan Ortega is one of the very best and as he showcased last season, he especially thrives on the biggest of stages as well.
