Stefan Ortega has praised his fellow Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and shared some details about his role in the squad.

The German made his ninth appearance of the season on Tuesday night during City’s 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup.

Having only featured in two Premier League games this campaign, the 31-year-old has been sharing his thoughts on the teammate that has been keeping him on the bench for the majority of the season.

Speaking in a recent interview with the club which was shared in their latest edition of the City Magazine, Ortega had this to say about Ederson and the competition between the pair for a place in the team.

He said: “Eddy is a top keeper, and I would say we’re on the same level – everyone has an area they are better in – but of course it’s not easy to not play each week.

“We can learn from each other and with our goalkeeping department, we are working together and always pulling in the same direction.

“I don’t want to miss any games, but if I get frustrated from time to time, I need to get frustrated to Xabi [Mancisidor] or Pep [Guardiola] – not Eddy because he’s doing the same as me – going to training and showing his best version. I can’t be angry at him and when I play, he supports me, too, so we have a close relationship. As I say, he is a top keeper.”

City signed the Brazilian back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Benfica for a fee of £35m.

Since then, the 30-year-old has made 322 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in all competitions, keeping 151 clean sheets and winning a lot of titles along the way.

Earlier this week, Guardiola spoke out about how important Ederson is for the team but also outlined how Ortega has the ability to push the Brazilian in terms of fighting for a place in the starting XI.

With the German now sharing how much he admires his Brazilian teammate and that they have a close relationship, this will undoubtedly be music to Guardiola’s ears.
