‘Total mismatch’: BBC pundit says Man City star absolutely destroyed one Brighton player

BBC pundit Chris Sutton highlighted how much Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku was dominating James Milner in the club’s 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Citizens welcomed Roberto De Zerbi’s side to the Etihad Stadium following the recent international break in the hope of getting back to winning ways after losing their two previous league matches.

Goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland were enough to seal the three points for Pep Guardiola’s side on this occasion, although it was another attacking figure in City’s team that caught the eye of one pundit, who wasn’t shy in sharing his thoughts on the matter.

Posted in BBC Sport’s live match tracker, Sutton had this to say about the individual battle between Doku and Milner with just half an hour of the game played.

He said: “A total mismatch isn’t it, Doku versus Milner? Close again Doku, we knew what he was trying to do there. If Milner had a towel, well he wouldn’t throw it in, but we know there is only one side winning in that contest.”

Across Doku’s 75 minutes on the pitch, the Belgian managed to successfully complete five of the six dribbles he attempted, most of which saw him go up against Milner, who was playing in the right-back position for Brighton.

Having also assisted City’s first goal of the game within the first seven minutes of action, this further highlights how dangerous he was right from the get go, much to Milner’s dismay.

In fact, Doku was having so much joy down the left wing against Milner, De Zerbi chose to take the Englishman off at half-time.

With all of that in mind, it’s clear that Sutton was right in his first-half comments about how much trouble the City winger was causing Milner in the early stages of the match.
