Brandon Barker may have failed to make a huge impact on the Manchester City first team, but it seems that the winger left a big impression on Liverpool and England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has said that he was very impressed when he played against former Manchester City winger Brandon Barker at youth level.

Alexander-Arnold has noted how he thought that Barker would go on to become one of the best players in the world.

Barker is 27 now and is without a club at the moment.

Alexander-Arnold made the comments about Barker while speaking to We Are Liverpool podcast on LFC’s YouTube channel.

The Liverpool star was asked to name a particularly tough opponent who people won’t know about.

Alexander-Arnold replied, as transcribed by EmpireOfTheKop:  “I would say Brandon Barker, played for [Manchester] City.

“I was 18. I was playing for the under-21s. First ever time at Anfield, got beat 3-0. He scored two and got an assist.

“I came off at 60 [minutes]. Still to this day, [he’s] the opponent that I think just destroyed me, man. I’ve never had it like that before.

“At that point, I’m thinking ‘This kid’s gonna be the best player in the world’, because I’d never seen someone move so quickly and sharp and so effectively, so I’d say Brandon Barker.”

Manchester City sold Brandon Barker in 2019

Much was expected of Brandon Barker when he was coming through the ranks at Manchester City, but things simply did not work out for him.

The winger failed to establish himself in the City first team and had loan spells at Rotherham United, NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End.

City sold the winger to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in the summer of 2019.

Former Liverpool and England international midfielder Steven Gerrard was in charge of Rangers at the time.

The Gers paid City just £300,000 to sign Barker (The Daily Record).

The winger could not become a success at Rangers.

After a loan spell at Oxford United, Barker left Rangers permanently in 2022 for a short stint at Reading before joining AC Omonia in Cyprus.

Omonia released the former England Under-20 winger in August.
