Manchester City are back in Premier League action on Sunday with their opening match of the new campaign.
Following on from their Community Shield victory over Manchester United last weekend, the Citizens will be kicking off their 2024/25 league campaign with an away clash against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola’s side faced off against the West London club during their recent pre-season tour of America, beating them 4-2.
With domestic football now back in full swing, one pundit and former top-flight striker has shared his verdict on how this showdown at Stamford Bridge could go down.

Troy Deeney shares prediction for Man City vs Chelsea
Ahead of the opening weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures, Troy Deeney shared a post on his official TikTok account where he predicted the scores for all the games, including City’s match against Chelsea, saying this on the matter.
He said: “I think City will be too good for them but I think Chelsea will show signs so I’ll go 3-1 City.”
This would be a big win for City
Deeney isn’t the only pundit to back the champions to get their new campaign off to a winning start, as Chris Sutton predicted them to secure a 2-1 victory this weekend against Enzo Maresca’s side in West London.
Looking back over the two previous league meetings between the two sides, both matches ended up in draws with a 4-4 cracker at Stamford Bridge and a 1-1 stalemate at the Etihad Stadium.
However, with Chelsea once again having a new manager and a raft full of new players in their squad, this upcoming game could be completely different.
Either way, Sunday’s clash will still be a big test for City and give them a great start to the campaign if they can walk away with all three points.
