Manchester City have been one of the most successful clubs in Europe over the past few years under Pep Guardiola.
In addition to recently becoming the first side to win four consecutive Premier League trophies, City also won their first Champions League in the 2022/23 season where they also lifted the FA Cup.
With Pep Guardiola’s side now gearing up for their latest campaign, one pundit and former top-flight player has shared his praise for how the Manchester club have operated behind the scenes during their period of success.

Troy Deeney praises Man City’s transfer business
Following the recent news that City could be about to get £82m to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, Troy Deeney had this to say about the Manchester club’s transfer business in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel.
He said: “City are smart. I think we get caught up in this whole City throw all the dough at it.
“They operate a very good shrewd business there, the way that those two technical directors operate, they operate really well, they know what they’re doing.
“They buy young, sell at high value, that is what you do very well as what loads of people do really well in business.
“I think my worry was first, I thought Alvarez was someone who would come in and make [Phil] Foden be minimised in terms of his role and what he could do. But I think whenever I’ve watched Alvarez, I think he’s a fantastic footballer.
“I think for what City have and we’re going to get onto strikers in a minute, you need a certain type of striker because they’ve got so many good footballers there. It takes a [Erling] Haaland to fit in.”
City have a track record of making a profit on players
Some of the players City have signed and then made a profit on during Guardiola’s reign include Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus.
This shows that while the club have been known to spend large fees to sign players, they also know how to make a profit as well.
With Alvarez now looking to be the next players to give City a big cash boost, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the money before the summer transfer window closes.
