Txiki Begiristain could replicate one of his Manchester City transfer masterclasses by securing a transfer deal for Giorgio Scalvini.
Back in 2020, Begiristain helped the Manchester club sign Ruben Dias from Benfica in a deal worth £65m.
Since then, the centre-back has gone on to become a pivotal figure for Pep Guardiola’s side, making 143 appearances for City across all competitions, winning three Premier League titles along the way.
Now though, looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, Begiristain could have the chance to complete a similar sort of transfer deal to the Dias capture.
Scalvini could be Begiristain’s next transfer masterclass

Earlier today, it was reported that City had looked at signing Scalvini during the previous summer transfer window as a potential alternative to Josko Gvardiol, who the club signed from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £77m.
Should the Citizens look to reignite this interest in the Atalanta defender, we feel that this could end up being as pivotal as their move for Dias was.
As a young defender making a name for himself in his home country, this puts Scalvini in a similar position that Dias was in at Benfica before making his big move to the Etihad Stadium.
At the age of 19, the Italian has made 124 appearances for his current club across their senior and youth sides, which mirrors what Dias did at his previous side.
Scalvini has also shown in his eight Serie A appearances this season that his defensive ability puts him in the same bracket as the City star, as he has racked up more clearances (20) and blocks (18) than any other Atalanta player, in addition to having the second-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (36) at the club.

Described by talent scout Jacek Kulig as a “complete, elegant and dominant centre-back,” Scalvini has certainly shown why City were right to have him on their radar over the summer.
Moving forward, if the Manchester club are in the market for another defender once the next summer transfer window opens for business, we feel that Begiristain should be doing all he can to land a deal for Scalvini.
