Txiki Begiristain has been involved in a significant number of transfer deals during his time at Manchester City.

During his tenure as City’s director of football, the 60-year-old has overlooked multiple transfer deals to see players such as Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland and Rodri join the Manchester club.

Begiristain’s latest deal has seen Ilkay Gundogan make a return to Pep Guardiola’s side after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer just one year into the three-year deal he signed with the Spanish club.

Following the German’s return to City, Begiristain couldn’t help but share his thoughts on the player and his latest move.

Txiki Begiristain discusses Ilkay Gundogan’s Man City return

After seeing Gundogan make his return to the Etihad Stadium, Txiki Begiristain had this to say about the midfielder on the official Man City website.

He said: “Ilkay is one of the finest professionals I have ever worked with. His dedication to football and his approach to every single training session is something special.

“He is also an exceptional midfielder. His reading of the game, his football intelligence, his technical quality and his leadership make him an excellent addition to our squad.

“To be able to bring him back here is fantastic news for everyone. He will help us in our main objective, which is to win trophies, but he will also be an inspiration to so many.”

Gundogan’s return is great news for City

After his move to City was announced for the second time, Gundogan said that he can’t wait to work with Guardiola again, who will presumably be just as delighted as Begiristain to have the German back in the squad.

In addition to scoring five goals and providing nine assists in 36 La Liga games last season, the 33-year-old also racked up the second-highest total of shot-creating actions in the division (166).

With that in mind as well as the experience he already has as a City player, most supporters of the Manchester club will share the same sentiments as Begiristain on this particular topic.
