It has been reported that Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain personally wants to sanction a transfer for Alphonso Davies.

It seems unlikely that Joao Cancelo will remain at the Etihad Stadium next season, as it has been widely reported that his relationship with Pep Guardiola broke down after the World Cup.

As Manchester City are expected to scour the transfer market for a brand-new left-back, Txiki Begiristain now believes Alphonso Davies would be the perfect signing.

After Bayern Munich suffered a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League quarter-final first leg to the Sky Blues, the Canadian skipper famously tipped Erling Haaland to become a ‘legend of the game.’

If that was not enough of a reason for City fans to admire the 22-year-old, branded as ‘elite’ by the International Champions Cup, there is no questioning that he is one of, if not the best left-back in the world.

So much so that Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg claimed that both Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain would ‘love’ to wrap up a transfer for Alphonso Davies.

However, the Champions League winner also remains a target for Real Madrid.

It has been mentioned that Bayern have no intention to sell Davies and instead aim to extend his contract beyond 2025.

MCN View: Davies would be the dream signing for Manchester City

Txiki Begiristain would be right to target Alphonso Davies, as he remains the ideal transfer incoming at left-back for Manchester City in the summer.

For starters, the rapid defender would provide natural width to this side, which is especially lacking on the left-hand side, as Jack Grealish has a propensity to drift into central zones.

In addition, the width Davies would offer would get the best out of Grealish and Foden, who profile more like attacking midfielders rather than out-and-out wide players.

Going forward as well, the Bayern mainstay is no slouch either, as his dribbling ability, searing pace and pinpoint crossing makes him as much a threat as most top wingers.

The youngster’s incredible recovery pace, much like Kyle Walker in a sense would also allow City to stick with their three-back setup, as he could be given the license to bomb forward with the guarantee of him defending transitions adeptly.

All in all, Alphonso Davies has all the attacking and defensive traits to be a smash success at the Etihad Stadium, if a move happens, of course.
