Mohamed Salah has hailed former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian legend is still fondly remembered for his time at City as he played an integral role in the club’s success and was one of their many brilliant goalscorers.

Currently at Fenerbahce, Dzeko’s reputation improved despite his exit from the English giants in 2016 as he enjoyed fruitful spells in Serie A at AS Roma and Inter Milan.

The two-time Premier League winner emerged as a crucial contributor to the Sky Blues side, both as a substitute as well as a starter.

It’s fair to claim that Dzeko’s crucial contributions perhaps went under the radar at times, as the likes of Aguero and Tevez would often grab the headlines.

However, when Mohamed Salah was quizzed about the best striker he has ever played with, one of the names he mentioned was Edin Dzeko.

“[Edin] Dzeko was unbelievable but I only played two seasons there [at Roma]”, he said during an interview with Men In Blazers.

Signing Edin Dzeko shows how brilliant Manchester City’s recruitment was

Manchester City supporters would especially agree with Mohamed Salah about Edin Dzeko, who was a terrific number nine and at Roma, their lethal partnership was a treat to witness.

Looking back to City’s decision to sign Dzeko in 2011, despite him being a quality forward even then, he was far from a big name.

However, those who had paid attention to Edin Dzeko’s time in Germany were aware that notably, he had led VFL Wolfsburg to a famous Bundesliga title in the 2008/2009 season.

The season after, Dzeko had scored 22 league goals and before his January transfer to City in 2011, he had already bagged 10 league goals in that term.

It was evident to see that the Sarajevo-born striker was headed to the top but while many clubs chose not to take a punt on him, Manchester City’s recruits were always ahead of the rest of the curve.

Cut to today and while Dzeko is largely considered as a cult hero at the Etihad Stadium, some might even regard him as a club legend.
