It has been reported that Barcelona target Bernardo Silva could end up signing a brand-new contract at Manchester City this summer.

This comes from Mundo Deportivo, after it was claimed on Sunday that City had ‘no intention’ to sell the £43 million (BBC Sport) man to Xavi’s side or even PSG.

Now, it seems like Bernardo Silva could be set to pen a contract extension at Manchester City, ending his chances of signing for Barcelona.

Branded as ‘very underrated’ by Ilkay Gundogan via ESPN, the Portuguese international has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium for four summers running.

However, each and every time, the treble-winners ends up staying put at the Etihad Stadium and goes on to become a vital contributor to his side.

This time around, it has been reported that even those close to Bernardo Silva believe the likeliest scenario remains that he stays at Manchester City and signs a new contract instead of heading to Barcelona.

In addition, it has been revealed that the decorated attacker was hoping for some clarity around his next career move before the 2023/2024 Premier League season kicks off on Friday.

However, Bernardo and his camp seem to be aware of the financial difficulties that the Blaugrana are undergoing, as the club have found it hard to persuade the Sky Blues to part ways with the player after an initial first proposal was turned down.

Keeping Bernardo Silva is better than any new signing

Especially considering that Manchester City could not only keep Bernardo Silva next season but also tie him down to a new contract is an incredible piece of news, considering he seemed Barcelona-bound at one point.

The 28-year-old is perhaps City’s most complete player, coupled with his invaluable experience, ability to provide cover in both midfield and right-wing and big-game pedigree makes him such a key member of the squad.

To have lost him could well have crushed the Sky Blues’ hopes of lifting any silverware in the upcoming campaign as Bernardo Silva proves time and again that he is well and truly one of one.
