Txiki Begiristain has backed Jeremy Doku to become a world-class player at Manchester City.

The Manchester club recently announced the arrival of the winger from Rennes after they had agreed a £55m deal with the Ligue 1 side.

This then led to City’s director sharing a message about the player and what his future could hold at the Etihad Stadium as part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

In the club’s official announcement of Doku’s arrival on their website, Begiristain had this to say about the winger.

He said: “Jeremy is a very exciting young player and I’m so pleased he’s joining us.

“In terms of raw attributes, he has everything a winger needs. He has outstanding pace and he is exceptional in one-on-one situations.

“I honestly believe working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him develop into a world-class attacking talent.”

During his time with Rennes, the attacker scored 12 goals and delivered 10 assists in 92 appearances across all competitions.

To further highlight the Belgian’s attacking talent, the previous Ligue 1 campaign saw him rack up more carries into the penalty area (47) than any other Rennes player.

He also made more successful take-ons (96) than any other player at the French club, which backs up Begiristain’s point about him being particularly effective in one-on-one situations.

With Guardiola having a reputation of being able to improve players he coaches, this makes it easy to see why City’s director thinks their latest recruit now has the opportunity to become a world class talent during his time at the Etihad.

Moving forward, even though some players have found their first seasons at City hard to adjust to previously, it’ll be intriguing to see how Doku fares in the early weeks and months at the Manchester club.
