Matheus Nunes has shared some details on his relationship with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The midfielder is in the middle of his first season at the Manchester club where he’s been training and playing alongside some of the best players in Europe.
Now though, the 25-year-old has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what it’s been like to work with Guardiola.
Nunes hails ‘amazing’ Guardiola
Speaking on Football Focus, Nunes had this to say about his relationship with Guardiola and what the Spaniard has taught him.
He said: “It’s a very good relationship, he’s an amazing coach, he’s the best coach in the world. He was also a really strong reason for me to come here, because of him.
“For sure [Guardiola has improved me], in terms of understanding, not major stuff because he doesn’t teach you major stuff but the other stuff like being focused for 90 minutes in the game and little things that make us be the way we are.”
During his time in charge of the Citizens, the Spaniard has overlooked 457 games in all competitions prior to the FA Cup clash against Newcastle United.
Across those games, the 53-year-old has won 338, drawn 55 and lost 64, winning numerous trophies and coaching a lot of players along the way.
Having been voted as the world’s best men’s coach in the 2023 Best FIFA Football Awards after winning the Treble with City, this showcases how much of a top manager Guardiola is.
This isn’t the first time a player who has featured for Guardiola has spoken about how much they have learned from the 53-year-old, as Ilkay Gundogan said back in 2020 that it was an “achievement” for him to train, play and learn from the City boss.
Back on Nunes, if he can keep learning from his manager and make the most of the chances that come his way in terms of playing games, he’ll definitely go on to be a top player for the Blues.
