Petr Cech has highlighted Ederson as being one of Manchester City’s most important players.
The Brazilian is currently in the middle of his seventh season at the Manchester club and on the hunt to regain the three titles they won at the end of their previous campaign.
With Ederson and his City teammates preparing to take on Chelsea for their latest Premier League game this afternoon, one former top-flight goalkeeper has been sharing his thoughts on the City star.
Cech says Ederson is so important for City
Speaking in a recent Q&A with Jamie Carragher shared on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Cech had this to say about Ederson when asked who are the three current top-flight goalkeepers he likes the most.
He said: “Everybody talks about his distribution but he makes important saves. He doesn’t have to do much but he makes important interventions and he’s very important in the team.”
City signed the shot-stopper from Benfica back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth £35m.
Since then, the Brazil international has gone on to make 319 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions prior to today’s match against Chelsea.
Having kept 149 clean sheets for Pep Guardiola’s side, Ederson, who is currently on a weekly wage of £100k-per-week according to Capology, has won numerous trophies at the Manchester club including five Premier League titles.
In terms of how important he is for the team and his manager, a prime example of this was in the Champions League final where Ederson made five saves to across the 90 minutes to keep a clean sheet and help his side become European champions.
Then with his distribution, which Cech also mentioned, Guardiola said back in 2021 that the Brazilian has the best distribution of any goalkeeper he has ever seen.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why the former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper is such a fan of Ederson.
