Joleon Lescott has said that he is a big fan of Manchester City youngster Rico Lewis.
The 18-year-old ended up making 23 senior appearances in Pep Guardiola’s side last season and is now preparing for the new campaign alongside the rest of the first team.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, one former City player has shared his thoughts on the youngster and his efforts in the team last term.
Lescott praises Lewis

Speaking in a recent livestream on the club’s official YouTube channel ahead of their upcoming and final pre-season friendly match against Atletico Madrid, Lescott had this to say when asked if he was a fan of Lewis.
He said: “Very much so. Came on the scene and had a massive impact on the transformation of the season and the direction it took, especially after the World Cup, I think it was the Chelsea game, his performance in that and the impact it had.
“Huge talent, can play multiple positions as well so the club should be very proud of him.”

Having started 16 of the 23 games he appeared in for the treble winners last season, which included some big games against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, this shows how much faith Guardiola has in the player.
Also, with the Englishman featuring in different positions for the Citizens, this showcases the versatility he has and how useful he can be for the manager when called upon as Lescott mentioned.
In fact, the club have identified how valuable and impressive Lewis is and are now looking to tie his long-term future down by seeing him agree to a new six-year contract.
Moving forward, if the teenager can get more minutes under his belt next season continue to impress when given the chance, he’ll no doubt be able to develop his game and potentially become a regular starter in the side.
