‘Wants out’: Journalist says 21-year-old Man City player really wants to go now

Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis reportedly wants to leave the club this summer.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at Burnley where he helped Vincent Kompany’s side win promotion back to the Premier League before more recently winning the 2023 U21 European Championship with England.

Now, with next season approaching, the 21-year-old could be on the move again before the current summer transfer window closes.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Will Lancaster had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Understand Taylor Harwood-Bellis is back on Burnley’s radar.

“Told England U21 captain wants out of Manchester City with first-team football limited, and permanent Burnley move has been discussed amongst reps. Perfect timing with Soumaila Coulibaly deal off.”

During his time at the Lancashire club last season, the Englishman featured in 32 Championship games and even chipped in with one goal and two assists on their way back to the top-flight.

Across those 32 games, the defender ended up making more clearances (106) than any other player in Kompany’s squad, which makes it easy to see why they are keen on securing another deal for him this summer.

Given the number of centre-backs currently in Pep Guardiola’s squad at City, in addition to their potential signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, it’s easy to see why Harwood-Bellis may have some concerns about his playing time in the first team next season.

Therefore, if the Citizens are willing to let the youngster leave on a permanent basis to Burnley where he’d have a better chance of playing regularly, this is something that could well benefit all parties, especially if the European champions pick up a suitable fee for him and get a buy-back clause in his potential contract.
