Journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested that Bernardo Silva is looking to secure a move to Paris Saint-Germain from Manchester City this summer.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer over recent weeks, with PSG joining Barcelona and Al-Hilal in the frame to land his signature.

With Riyad Mahrez recently agreeing a £30m move to Al-Ahli, one journalist has discussed the current state of affairs concerning the Portuguese international’s potential departure.

Speaking in a recent edition of the Talking Transfer podcast, Bailey had this to say about Silva and the situation surrounding his future.

He said: “We are being told that City are looking to keep Silva now but how in all consciousness can they say no to him? They’ve allowed Gabriel Jesus, he wasn’t happy, he left. [Leroy] Sane left when he wasn’t happy, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko, Mahrez.

The only thing they’ve got on their side with Silva is the demand market value which is £70m-£80m. We know he’s not going to Saudi because Saudi Arabia clubs are not paying that sort of fee for any player, we know that already.

“Barcelona, unless they find some money from somewhere or unless Frenkie de Jong leaves, they’re not signing him. But that does leave Paris Saint-Germain who are willing to spend this money, I think that’s the danger City have got and they’ve got a really worry.

“Bernardo Silva does fancy PSG, yeah he wants to go to Barcelona first but PSG is another option. He spent time at Monaco he obviously loves France.

“I don’t see how City keep him, I don’t see how they can deny it. If PSG come up with the money, which is a big if but if they do offer £70m-£80m, which they’re well capable of doing, I don’t see how City keep him.”

As Bailey mentioned, Silva joined City from Monaco back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £43m.

Since then, the midfielder has been key figure in Pep Guardiola’s side recent trophy-laden campaigns, scoring 55 goals and providing 59 assists in 306 appearances.

Featuring in all but six of City’s game across their treble-winning season last term, this showcases how significant he is for the team and Guardiola and why his potential departure would be such a big blow for them.

Last month, it was reported that the Manchester club are keen to see the player sign a new deal at the Etihad, which further highlights how much they value him, in addition to having such a significant asking price if a club were to launch a move for him.

Moving forward, if the midfielder says he’d be unhappy to stay at City beyond this summer, the club may have to hope that a side like PSG come forward with a suitable offer and that a deal can be made.
