Wayne Rooney believes Manchester City could be about to do something this weekend that will have Liverpool worried.
Having lost two of their opening three matches of the season, Pep Guardiola’s men have looked more like their old selves following the international break, beating Man United last weekend before Erling Haaland and Phil Foden starred against Napoli on Thursday night.
There is still some way to go before Man City can be described as being at their best, but Sunday’s match against Premier League title rivals Arsenal will provide an indication of the level the Manchester club is currently at.
Rooney will keep a close eye on the match, and the former Man United star thinks City can do something against the Gunners that will have Liverpool worried.

Liverpool will be worried if Manchester City beat Arsenal
The majority of English football fans currently have Liverpool as the favourites for the Premier League title, given their perfect start to the season and the players they acquired over the summer; however, Arsenal and Man City are expected to run the Reds close.
The Gunners look like they will be the Merseyside club’s main challengers for the title, but Rooney has admitted that Liverpool will be worried if City beat Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
“I think if Manchester City win this game, I think Arsenal, Liverpool will be looking and thinking, this is not good,” the pundit said on The Wayne Rooney Show.
“Because obviously with Guardiola’s reputation of titles, he’s won obviously the way Manchester City beat Manchester United. Then if they go on and beat Arsenal, I think that’s a real statement from them.”
Guardiola’s men will enter the contest full of confidence, with players such as Foden, Haaland, and Jeremy Doku in top form at present, with Chris Sutton predicting the Man City striker to score against Arsenal at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s record against Arsenal
Since arriving at Man City in 2016, Guardiola has had a very good record against Arsenal, winning 20, drawing five, and losing just seven of the 32 games he has faced the Gunners.
However, the big concern for City fans is that their team has not beaten the London club throughout the last five times they have faced each other, with Mikel Arteta’s men hammering the Manchester side 5-1 last time around at the Emirates Stadium.
Man City will also have concerns about the referee for Sunday’s match, as Stuart Attwell made a huge mistake the last time he took charge of a big game involving the Manchester club.
When it comes to the weekend, Guardiola will ignore all of this, with the Man City boss likely to be confident given the last two results his team have produced.
