Rico Lewis has said that his game is “very similar” to that of England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As quoted by the Mirror, the Manchester City right-back had his say on why his playing style can be likened to Alexander-Arnold’s.

Rico Lewis has had the chance to watch the Liverpool superstar in action from up close after earning his first senior England call-up recently.

Hailed as “special” by Gary Neville (via Sky Sports), the 25-year-old is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world.

Much like the Bury-born youngster, Alexander-Arnold too is famed for being able to play at both right-back as well as in midfield.

Now, Rico Lewis has acknowledged the similarities in his game to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“I would not say [I] picked his brains. For me, there has not been much on the pitch yet that we can talk about or anything like that but I have had a few conversations with him and he is a very nice person. He is somebody I have got to know a little bit”, Lewis said, as quoted by the Mirror.

“We are very similar being full-backs and leaning a little bit more towards midfield, especially with England. And he is somebody I can take a lot of information from.”

Lewis should take inspiration from the Liverpool hero

One piece of advice that would benefit Rico Lewis is to study how Trent Alexander-Arnold has operated at right-back so far in his career.

While some might suggest Lewis to not do so because of the Reds fan favourite’s much-maligned defending, his influence as a playmaker from such a defensive position is unprecedented.

Rico Lewis has the technical ability to have a similar impact on his Manchester City side as his countryman has had on Liverpool.

If the 18-year-old can add even a similar level of chance creation to his locker, the sky is the limit for him.
