It has been reported that West Ham United are now desperate for Manchester City to launch a bid to wrap a transfer for Declan Rice.

This comes from journalist Dean Jones on The Football Terrace after it was reported on Monday that City are expected to submit a formal offer on Thursday.

It seems like West Ham United themselves are keen on Manchester City taking centrestage in the race to sign Declan Rice.

Fabrizio Romano also claimed on Thursday that the 24-year-old is now ‘open to any move’ away from the London Stadium.

With Arsenal having tried to get the deal done for a couple of months, it seemed like the Emirates Stadium was guaranteed to be his calling.

However, Dean Jones has explained why West Ham now want Manchester City to put in a bid to sign Declan Rice.

“It appeals to West Ham more to sell him to Man City. Not only is there more of a rivalry with Arsenal traditionally, but there have been two offers now that weren’t where they wanted to be, they are getting a bit agitated by that, and Man City also have a player West Ham really want in Kalvin Phillips.”

Manchester City are certainly frontrunners in the race for his signature

While Arsenal have done a lot more groundwork to sign Declan Rice, just logically speaking, why would he join them over Manchester City?

The Sky Blues have won five out of the last six Premier League titles, have come off the back of a treble-winning season and Pep Guardiola is set to be in charge of them until at least 2025.

Despite how exciting Arsenal’s project under Mikel Arteta is, there is simply no better place to play football than at the Etihad Stadium.

With Rice having the final say over which club he joins, naturally, he would rather opt for English football’s reigning champions.
