What Cole Palmer said about Rico Lewis after Manchester City beat RB Leipzig

Branded as ‘outstanding’ by Pep Guardiola, the Englishman was deployed as an advanced midfielder at the Red Bull Arena.

The teenager took to the role like a duck to water, assisting Phil Foden’s opener, exhibiting his technical excellence, finding pockets of space and being typically press-resistant against the German giants.

Cole Palmer, who played with Rico Lewis at youth and senior level for Manchester City left a comment lauding his former teammate after his masterful showing against RB Leipzig.

“My boy, what a player”, he commented after the contest.

Rico Lewis proves yet again that he is the real deal

Cole Palmer would perhaps have not been surprised in the slightest that Rico Lewis showcased that he belongs at the elite level by bossing proceedings against RB Leipzig.

However, many could well have questioned this, considering the number of young talents that are eventually phased out of big clubs.

That is unlikely to be the case with Lewis anytime soon as he is not just an exceptional talent but has an incredible footballing brain as well, which separates him from the rest.

Rico Lewis’ understanding of when to go for the jugular in an attacking sense by playing a final ball and when to keep things ticking is reminiscent of a seasoned midfielder.

The Bury-born gem is also adept at knowing when to drop deeper in midfield and when to attack the space.

Coupling this footballing intelligence with sublime technical fundamentals, what is stopping Rico Lewis from reaching the very top?
