What Manchester City players really think of Liverpool inside the dressing room

Manchester City and Liverpool – barring last season – have enjoyed some tremendously entertaining battles in recent years.

Jürgen Klopp has proved to be the biggest thorn in Pep Guardiola’s side since the Spaniard arrived at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.

Aside from Claudio Ranieri and Antonio Conte, the German is the only man to pinch a Premier League title from the 52-year-old since he replaced Manuel Pellegrini.

Now – thanks to The Athletic – we have been given some insight regarding how Manchester City view Liverpool

What’s the story?

Well, some might feel that Arsenal are the main challengers to Manchester City nowadays after last season’s close shave against Mikel Arteta’s side.

However – according to The Athletic – those inside the Manchester City dressing room still view Liverpool as the ultimate title rivals.

Manchester City players are also said to hold respect for Liverpool, due to the fact Klopp’s side are one of very few who actually turn up to the Etihad Stadium and play on the front foot.

While that appreciation may have diminished slightly last season as the Reds finished fifth in the Premier League – 22 points behind Manchester City – Liverpool are on the up again this term.

Klopp’s side currently sit just one point behind Manchester City in second with 27 points to their name, and will top the Premier League if they win Saturday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium, which kicks off at the unusual time of 12:30pm.

It is said that some at the Etihad Stadium felt last season’s comprehensive victory over the Reds was actually one of the most satisfying results of the entire campaign, which speaks volumes when you consider the fact Manchester City won the treble.

Clearly, there is a lot of respect from Manchester City towards Liverpool, and consequently, a lot of joy within the camp when Klopp’s side taste defeat against the Citizens.
