Manchester City look set to tangle with Arsenal in yet another race to win the Premier League title.

The north London club have finished second behind City in the two previous campaigns.

In City’s Treble-winning campaign, Arsenal finished five points behind the Blues, whereas last season the gap was closed to just two points.

Last weekend saw the two sides go toe-to-toe with each other at the Etihad Stadium for the first time in this latest campaign.

Ending with a 2-2 scoreline, the match saw tensions rise between the players on the pitch and some members of each club’s coaching and technical staff on the benches.

Now though, some details have come to light regarding how the two managers and former colleagues feel about each other at this minute.

Report shares details on Pep Guardiola’s current relationship with Mikel Arteta

A recent report from The Independent had this to say about the relationship between Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta following the increasing frostiness between their two teams as shown in Sunday’s draw.

It said: “Standing a little uneasily amid all this are the two managers. Arteta is one of the few people at Arsenal who doesn’t really discuss City, given his history there.

“Guardiola gave the Basque his first coaching job. They remain on civil terms.”

Guardiola is a big admirer of Arteta

As mentioned in the report, Arteta’s first coaching job was as Guardiola’s assistant at City between 2016 and 2019.

During his time as Arsenal’s manager, the 42-year-old has overlooked 237 games in total across all competitions, winning 143, drawing 37 and losing 57 along the way.

After Sunday’s dramatic draw at the Etihad, Guardiola shared that he texted Arteta and that the relationship between the pair is still fine despite the weekend’s antics.

In addition to that, the City manager said (via The Independent) back in October that he learned more from Arteta than people think Arteta learned from Guardiola.

With all of that in mind, it’s clear that despite the heated competitiveness between the two sets of players, Guardiola and Arteta’s relationship is still on good terms.
