What Pep Guardiola has said about Saul Niguez, amid Bernando Silva swap claims

Atletico Madrid have reportedly offered Manchester City the chance to sign Saul Niguez, in a deal that would see Bernando Silva head to Spain.

That’s the claim today from the Times, who say the new La Liga champions are keen on the Portugal international.

Silva has been with City since the summer of 2017.

The midfielder signed from AS Monaco, and has proven to be an excellent signing for the club.

The star has made over 200 appearances for the club, and won 10 trophies so far.

Apparently Bernardo is on Atleti’s radar, and the Spanish giants may try to offer Saul in a bid to get their man.

Spain international Saul has been with the club since 2008, and broke through to the first-team in 2012.

He’s clocked up 337 appearances for them to date.

Interestingly, Pep Guardiola has spoken about the player before.

He said in 2018 (Mirror): “Man City have interest in 125 players in the last day so it is just one more.

“Sometimes I read Pep Guardiola has interest in this player but I don’t know him

“He is an Atletico player and will stay there for a long time. But he is an exceptional player.”

Saul exceptional, but so is Bernardo

Saul is a superb talent, who has a brilliant blend of technical quality and athleticism.

He’d improve so many top sides across Europe.

But Bernando Silva is also a top, top player, who Guardiola rates extremely highly.

Unless Bernardo agitates for a move, which doesn’t feel particularly likely, then the potential proposal from Atleti probably isn’t worth considering.
