A night after Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final, they held a trophy parade in the country’s capital city of Madrid.
Rodri and his Spanish teammates had every reason to celebrate — as Luis de la Fuente’s side helped the nation win their fourth European Championship title — the most by a nation in the tournament’s history.
Heading into the competition, Spain were tied with Germany with three such trophies.
However, Luis de la Fuente and Co. capped off a wonderful tournament by becoming the first team to create a special piece of history.
Unsurprisingly, the £220,000-a-week man and his teammates were in a celebratory mood at the trophy parade.
Spain players sing Manchester City chant about Rodri after Euro 2024 triumph
Rodri must be viewed as a hero in Spain after winning the Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2024.
The 28-year-old was up there with the likes of Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Fabian Ruiz and Marc Cucurella as not just their best but one of their most important players in Germany.
So much so that Gaizka Mendieta hinted that the former Atletico Madrid midfielder was the primary reason why the Spaniards clicked at the tournament.
During Spain’s trophy parade to celebrate their Euro 2024 triumph after defeating England, RTVE shared a video about a well-known chant heard about Rodri from the man himself and his teammates.
“Rodri’s on your fire, your defence is terrified!”
After the midfield maestro’s winner in the 2023 Champions League final in his side’s 1-0 victory against Inter Milan, Manchester City’s official YouTube channel shared a video of the Sky Blues players belting out the same chant in the dressing room about him.
Rodri will be celebrated by these Spain players and fans for years
Considering how brilliant Rodri was on the pitch and as one of the key leaders for Spain at Euro 2024, his teammates and the country’s supporters will admire him for years to come.
Once a player helps deliver international success for his nation, he is celebrated for decades in an achievement that unites countries.
Rodri was one of the key cogs behind Spain’s return to the top of European football; a prospect that might have seemed impossible when they were knocked out of the Round of 16 by Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.
However, the Spanish international is one of the many players in his country’s international circuit who has helped change their fortunes and emerge as a footballing force to reckon with again.
