What the Manchester City squad did on Sunday as Liverpool played Manchester United

Manchester City are faltering in the Premier League at the moment – and total focus is required to get back on track.

Pep Guardiola‘s side have won just one of their last six games in the competition, with defensive frailty proving a real concern at the moment.

City threw away a two-goal lead against Crystal Palace last weekend, and the result was extremely disappointing considering how much control City had for most of the game.

City don’t play again the Premier League until December 27 when they face Everton at Goodison Park, due to being in Club World Cup action.

It’s a chance for City to actually just reset and distract – and evidently, that’s what the City squad are looking to do given what they did on Sunday…

The day after City drew 2-2 with Palace, Liverpool were hosting Manchester United at Anfield.

It is one of the biggest fixtures in world football, and always commands great attention.

City are obviously rivals to both of these clubs, and the players may normally have been quite keen to tune in.

But the Manchester Evening News have reported that the City squad actually did not catch the game, instead preferring to find other forms of entertainment after arriving at their hotel in Jeddah on Sunday.

Obviously at the moment, Liverpool are above City in the Premier League table, and United are not too far behind City considering they have not played well this season. So it is intriguing that the players didn’t watch.

The game ultimately underwhelmed, finishing 0-0 with Liverpool having tried and failed to break down a stubborn United defence.

City players seeking to distract

It is really interesting to hear that the City players chose to forego the game between Liverpool and Manchester United.

It’s a massive fixture but clearly, City don’t want to look into other happenings in the Premier League too much.

The Premier League is currently out of sight, and seemingly the players also want to keep it out of mind – and that is probably the correct way to be going about things.

Things haven’t been going well for City in the league recently and it’s probably a good thing to just get away from the intensity of it all and focus on something else for the time being.
